Frame Sizing
Frame Sizing
See the charts below for assistance in choosing the right frame and opening size combination.
Please note Frame Width is the inside opening dimension of the frame; Rough Opening is the opening requirement for the WALL in which the frame will be placed.
For welded frames, please allow approximately an additional 1/4” on the height and approximately an additional 1/2″ on the opening width. (E.g., for a 3070 frame with a 2” frame head, a wall opening size of 40-½” W x 86-¼” H would be appropriate to accommodate the frame size. Please ensure to consider if the frame is using a 4” Head or a 2” Head.)
Masonry & Welded Frames
Masonry & Welded Frames
Our masonry frames are designed to withstand the demands of both internal and external environments. Galvanized to withstand rusting, they are ideal for external masonry and brick walls, but can also be configured for both interior and exterior stud walls.
Stock Depths: Our primary stock masonry frames are configured with a 5-3/4″ depth (4-7/8″ throat), and we also have a supply of 4-3/4″ (3-3/4″ Throat), 6-3/4″ (5-3/4″ Throat), 7-3/4″ (6-3/4″ Throat), and 8-3/4″ (7-3/4″) frame depths. Additionally, we can order custom-depth frames if your wall thickness is different from our available inventory.
Fire Rating: Our masonry hollow metal frames provide protection from fire and smoke conditions. They can be labeled for up to 3 hours if welded, and up to 90 minutes if in a knock down configuration (All NFPA 80 and labeling agency stipulations apply).
Other Rating and Labeling: We also provide windstorm-rated and hurricane-rated welded hollow metal frames by order. Please consult with your architect or the Florida Building Code (make link to following: https://floridabuilding.org/pr/pr_app_srch.aspx) to confirm the specific pressure and windload rating you need.
