Borrowed Light Frame: A borrowed light frame is a dedicated window frame made from hollow metal frame material. Builders often use these frames on interior windows to match the door frame profile or when more space is needed between the borrowed light opening and the door opening than a side light frame would allow. Additionally, a hollow metal borrowed light allows window placement at a higher vertical position in a wall than a sidelight frame sill would allow.
Transom Sidelight Frame: This type of frame utilizes glass panes on the side(s) and above the door opening.
Transom Light Frame: In a transom light frame, there is a fixed glass panel above the door opening to allow light to pass into the room. This type of frame also allows the builder to use a standard height door in the wall with a much higher opening. For these frames, builders must account for the total ceiling height when determining what size glass and door are needed.
Sidelight Frame: These welded frames allow a fixed pane of glazing (glass) to sit laterally to the door opening for visibility into the room. For very large lights or openings with fire ratings, a horizontal mullion can be placed in the middle of the light to divide it into two panes (and thereby creating two panes that comply with visible glass size requirements)
Sleeve Anchor: Masonry expansion anchor bolt that secures frame into an existing wall (masonry, brick, etc.)
Floor Anchor: Also called Sill Anchors; these anchors are a standard inclusion in our masonry frames and allow further security in frame installation
Wood Stud Anchor: Snapped- or welded-in anchor that allows fastening to wood stud prior to finish off wall construction
Metal Stud Anchor: Welded-in anchor that allows fastening to metal stud prior to finish of wall construction
Twist-in Prepared Opening Anchor: Also called pipe anchor, twisted into frame and provides guide for sleeve anchor to insert into existing block wall; allows for pouring of concrete down frame side without contacting sleeve anchor
Snap-in Prepared Opening Anchor: Also called existing wall anchor; tack-welded into frame and provides guide for sleeve anchor to insert into existing block wall
Tee Anchor: used in new block wall construction; set in between masonry blocks as the wall is constructed
Wire Anchor: used in new block wall construction; set in between masonry blocks as the wall is constructed
Fire Rated Glass (Labeled): By special order; fire rated glass, such as Pyran® Platinum F or Protect3TM safety wired glass, is rated and labeled for use in fire-resistant doors and lites. Please contact us prior to drafting your opening size or lite size requirements to ensure that your desired glass size will comply with the manufacturer’s allowable glass dimensions per fire resistance rating.
Lite kits allow the placement of glass into a door for visibility through the opening. Lite kits can be either metal low profile inserts or can be wood molding attached to the edge of the cutout. Our stock light kits are UL-listed products and can be used in fire rated doors with fire-rated glass – HOWEVER, please contact a member of our sales team to ensure the lite kit sizing and glass type are compatible with the opening rating. Our stock lite kits are for 1/4” thick glass.
Clear Laminate Glass: Laminate glass, also called impact-resistant glass), is appropriate for exterior openings and for interior openings subject to heavy traffic with potential for impact. Laminate glass is great for hospital doors, classroom hallway doors, exterior back doors, and exterior front office doors. We carry fourteen different stock tempered glass sizes and can special order any other sizes. Our stock glass is ¼” thick and is compatible with our lite kits.
Louvers: Metal louvers allow ventilation through a the door and are ideal for openings needing unimpeded air flow, like IT room doors or storage room doors. Standard louvers are NOT permitted for use in fire rated doors, and instead, must be a listed fusible link louver.

Cylindrical Lock Prep (161 Prep): The most common prep for all cylindrical locksets and one of the two stock preps for our doors. All of our stock doors come with a 2-1/8” bore and a 2-3/4” backset. Doors with 2-3/8” backsets are available by special order.
A door with a narrow lite has a narrow-width cutout on the lock side of the door face. Common narrow light sizes are 5” W x 35” H, 8” W x 32” H, and 8” W x 36” H.
